Füsun Onur
Born in 1938 in Istanbul, Turkey / Lives in Istanbul, Turkey

Adriano Pedrosa (AP): Our idea for the biennial was to offer a small selection of pieces that somehow give a representation of your work in relationship to abstraction, with strong individual pieces from different periods, spanning from 1968 through 2010. When and how did you start working as an artist?

Füsun Onur (FO): When I was a  child I always wanted to be a painter, because I thought a woman artist could not be a sculptor. I was doing little things I still have upstairs here in my house, and when I went to the movies or a ballet something would inspire me, and I would do something in clay that I would put in a regular kitchen oven. Some things would burst out. I loved clay. That was during all my childhood.
